The U.S Assistant Secretary of State called on Liberians on the Temporary Protective Status (TPS), whose stay was recently extended by 18 months, to begin preparing to return home or try to attain permanent residence status. She assured the Liberian government of America’s continued support to the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf led administration. The U.S Assistant Secretary of State emphasized that the U.S government intends for Liberia to host this command, but observed that making available land for the U.S government to construct infrastructure for such a base would be an incentive. In response to a request by Vice President Boakai, Madam Frazer assured that the U.S Government was seriously considering making Liberia the base for the Africa Command of U.S forces (AFRICOM), but advised that the Liberian Government should approach the U.S Department of Defense which has the final say in such matters.
